Inclusive Hiring Update – New Recruitment and Selection Policy and New Application Questions Launching 1st October 2025

As part of our commitment to inclusive recruitment, we are pleased to announce the launch of our new Recruitment and Selection Policy and new pre-screening questions to the application form in One Source Recruiting.

This policy reflects our ongoing commitment to building a diverse, skilled, and inclusive workforce, as outlined in our Workforce Strategy. It provides a clear, consistent framework for how we attract, assess, and appoint talent, while ensuring fairness, transparency, and best practice at every stage.

Key improvements include a stronger focus on inclusive recruitment practices and enhanced support for training managers including:

  • Anonymised selection practice
  • Promotion of diverse recruitment panels and the support of Equality Champions
  • Recognition of the council’s commitment to care leavers, offering a guaranteed interview scheme
  • Training to support workforce planning and future skills development
  • Clearer guidelines on mitigating bias and promoting equity
  • The introduction of a ‘Welcomes all’ inclusivity statement to our job pages

This introduction also supports the addition of our Guaranteed Interview Scheme questions and updated wording related to:

  • Disability and Neurodiversity
  • Care Leavers / Care Experienced
  • Armed Forces Veterans

What You Need to Know

  • Whether you are a hiring manager or simply want to better understand how we are attracting and growing talent, we encourage you to read the policy and familiarise yourself with the changes.
  • Guaranteed Interview scheme questions appear in the “Questions” section of the application, above Supporting Information.
  • If an applicant answers “Yes” to any, you’ll see “Verification Required” on the shortlist, followed by a score.
  • Click into the application to check which questions were answered “Yes”.
  • If the applicant meets the JDES criteria, they must be shortlisted for interview.
