One Source: new Annual Performance Conversation feature coming soon

Since the first phase of One Source went live in July 2020, the programme team ― supported by HR, payroll, finance and procurement colleagues ― has been hard at work making system improvements based on user feedback and refining digital processes in preparation for the roll out of additional features that will help save time, enable our future and drive customer-focused service delivery.

In the coming months, three new functions will be made available in One Source: Talent, Payroll and Overtime. These new functions will give you a user-friendly way to access a range of self-service activities such as viewing your payslip, entering overtime or conducting Annual Performance Conversions (APC).

The first of the new features to be launched will be Talent – APC on 15 March 2021, for initial objective setting and recording.

To support the launch, a number of 45-minute drop-in training sessions for managers and non-managers will be held from 4–26 March, with a series of short how-to videos and quick reference guides also being made available.

For information about training dates and times or to book on to a session, please see the online booking form.

Following the roll out of Talent – APC, all APC appraisals for 2021 will be completed within the One Source system rather than completing the current manual APC forms.

What is Talent – APC?

Talent – APC is a new, online APC recording function that offers all employees the ability to update progress against their APC objectives in real time. This will also give managers the opportunity to have better oversight of how their teams are progressing against their individual objectives, as well as collectively against team and organisational priorities.

Additional support material surrounding ratings on behaviors or reflections on objectives will be available in the summer, ready for mid-year APC reviews. Please note that final reviews against 2020 APCs, including status of objectives and behavior ratings, will follow the current process and be concluded outside of the system. More information on the current process can be found on the Inside Walsall APC pages.

What are the benefits of completing APCs in One Source?

  • Digital, paperless and secure storage of your appraisal documentation.
  • The ability to record and track personal development goals and update your progress against objectives on an ongoing basis, in real time, to aid 1-2-1 conversations in between formal APC meetings, including attaching necessary evidence.
  • Managers will have the ability to replicate objective plans for team members in the same job role.
  • Managers will be able to quickly identify employees who may need additional support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Anonymised online APC data can be collated for clear organisational oversight of the performance of our workforce as a whole against corporate strategic priorities, providing the opportunity to develop and implement specific cross-council corporate support initiatives as required.
  • Better intelligence in terms of compliance with APCs in order to better target support and training.

What’s next?

Talent-APC will soon be going live in One Source. Please book onto any of the training sessions held between 4 March and 26 March.

The One Source system is a key enabler to the delivery of the Walsall Proud Programme and new ways of working across the council which will come as a result. We’re committed to helping you use One Source to its full potential so you can access your employee information and functions in one place. In support of this, training and reference materials are available on the One Source Training and Support pages to ensure all users are able to make the most of the new system. The programme team will also be conducting a user feedback survey shortly, so we can understand what works best for you.
